In French, the grammar rules, verb forms and vocabulary are what you can memorise. Lumi asks them back, but speaking and writing need real practice.

How to turn this subject into cards
Make one note per rule or topic, with the form, one or two examples and the usual trap, such as which auxiliary a verb takes. Lumi quizzes conjugations, genders, agreement rules and vocabulary. The classic trap is knowing a rule without spotting it in a real sentence. For each rule, invent your own example sentence. The generation effect shows that you remember better what you produced yourself (Slamecka and Graf, 1978).

The verb avoir is the auxiliary for most verbs in the passé composé. A small group of verbs of movement, such as aller and venir, take être instead. With être the past participle agrees with the subject, so elle est allée ends in e. Adjectives usually follow the noun in French, as in une voiture rouge.
